Design review, design and construction supervision across every phase of a tailings storage facility for Shanta Mining — and the water infrastructure around it.
At New Luika Gold Mine in Songwe Region, TEKNICON has worked with Shanta Mining Company Ltd on TSF2 — the mine’s second tailings storage facility — through five successive phases.
For Phases 1, 2A and 2B the firm carried out design review and construction supervision. For Phase 3 it took on the design as well as the supervision, and for Phase 3B it provided construction supervision.
A tailings facility is raised in stages as a mine operates, so each phase has to be checked against the one before it. Reviewing designs and supervising each lift is how an owner keeps that growing structure consistent with its design basis.
Around the facility, TEKNICON also designed and supervised the energy dissipater for TSF2 supernatant water, a 150 ML water reservoir and a 350 ML masonry water dam — all for Shanta at New Luika.
